Tagging events

Saturday, April 22nd, 2006

I’ve been playing arround with google calendar today and must say i like it very much. Although, one thing is missing, the one thing that makes gmail so powerfull: Labels (or tags).
By adding more calendars you can of course make a distinction between your private, you work and other events but it’s not possible (i think) to add an event to more then one categories, like you can add more then one label to an email. I think that tagging or labeling would make google calendar a more powerfull product.

Who’s gonna give dynamic opml a push?

Thursday, April 20th, 2006

Aaron Mentele blogs about dynamic opml, like readinglists and how this concept is talked about a lot in the geekosphere but not yet implemented in most mainstream aggregators. Too bad, because the idea is brilliant and simple at the same time!

I’ve tried several aggregators but keep coming back to bloglines. The user interface is not the most attractive in the world but somehow it just works fine for me. It also feels very robust and reliable, so maybe bloglines could give it that push. Grazr is also a candidate, that with some work and some added memory could be a great candidate for evangelizing reading lists.

Talking about opml, rocketboom has put a nice video online, an interview with Dave Winer (in widescreen) on a bench in central park Tompkins Square Park NYC. Hear those birds sing and see the fresh green leaves on the trees, and the beautiful white tulips. I love springtime!

Calendars and stuff

Thursday, April 20th, 2006

I just downloaded the thunderbird extension ‘lightning’ which adds a nice calendar to thunderbird and makes it compete even better with outlook. It’s only version 0.1 so extra functionalities need to be implemented but the basic calendar functions are there.
Since both google calendar and lightning (there is also a standalone version of lightning called sunbird) use ical as the import/export protocol, automatic syncing would make this a perfect combination!
