Import/export is a relatively clumsy

Tuesday, November 29th, 2005

Nice analyses (look for the comment) by J. Wynia on importing/exporting opmlfiles from/into aggregators:

What really opens things up is when your aggregator can just be *pointed* to an OPML URL. That URL can then be dynamically manipulated in whatever ways you want and *every* aggregator is updated whenever you use it. I did the import/export thing, but read feeds in multiple ways and the sync issues crop up pretty quickly. However, my IMAP reader setup just points to an OPML file that changes whenever I add or remove feeds and it does it all automatically.

Import/export is a relatively clumsy, static approach to moving data around. I MUCH prefer to have the portions that are “mine” stored somewhere I control and have all of the tools just read it whenever they need it.

opmlbrowser.com

Tuesday, November 29th, 2005

A few weeks ago i registered the domain opmlbrowser.com which is now linked to the page on opmlmanager.com where you can download my wow opml browser.
I’m thinking of creating a site at this domain about opml-browsing in general. I’m fiddling with firefox-extensions right now and have an idea for a simple javascript-based browser that would split your screen in half, outlines on the left and linked content on the right.

manuals.opml

Monday, November 28th, 2005

Toninght i’ve been working on an opml-file (view outline) for the php-manual and while working on it i thought it would be nice to make a big opml-manuals-directory (view outline) with all kind of manuals.

In combination with taskable (offline??) this could be a great tool! Having access to all kind of manuals with just one click in the right-corner of your desktop.

If you like the idea and want to contribute to the manual directory, just start your own opml-manual and mail me the url and i’ll add you to the directory.

OPML generator for wordpress

Thursday, November 3rd, 2005

I’ve written a little script that generates an opml-file for your wordpressblog structured by categorie, year, month, posts. In taskable the opml for justplain.org looks like this:

You can download the script here. Instructions are in the file itself.

I’ve only tested the script with this blog which runs on wordpress 1.5.
Let me know what you think.
