iPodder platform

Monday, September 6th, 2004

Adam C. created a central place for bringing developers and users of iPodder together: ipodder.org.

There is also a wiki set up by Doug Kaye of IT Conversations about the same iPodder and audioblogs in broader context.

Windows Media Player supported by iPodder

Friday, September 3rd, 2004

Got an email today from a fellow-dutchman, Erwin Vos, who had done some hacking on my script. His script instead of updating playlists on iTunes, updates the playlists on Windows Media Player! Great job Erwin :-)
So, that takes it again one step further.

I’ve put a new version together that has both iTunes and WMP functionality. When it detects iTunes, it will update iTunes playlists, if it detects Windows Media PLayer it will update WMP’s playlists. If you have both installed, well then playlists in both applications are updated.

You can download this new iPodder for windows with Windows Media Player support here.

Got one!

Ipodder and PocketPC

Wednesday, September 1st, 2004

Let your pocketpc automatically Sync with the downloaded files from iPodder:

Step 1. Make sure your pocketPC is connected to your PC
Step 2. Startup ActiveSync and goto Tools->Options->Sync Options and in the list check the checkbox before ‘Files’
Step3. The pocketPC has created a new subfolder in your ‘My Documents’ called something like ‘Pocket_PC My Documents’
Step4. Create a subdirectory in this new folder which you are going to use as a download-folder
Step5. Put the path of this new created subfolder in the first line of feeds.txt
Step6. Now schedule iPodder to run once a day at a time that you are sleeping
Step7. Make sure that your PocketPC is connected with your pc while you sleep and that its scheduled to sync every hour or so.

Ok. You should now wake up with the newest downloads on your pocketPC.

iPodder 1.10 for windows

Wednesday, September 1st, 2004

Again some improvements:
1. The script now detects if iTunes is installed or not. If its not installed the script will still work, but all the iTunes functionallity is escaped then.
2. Files are downloaded into a subdirectory of the targetdirectory with the same name as the channel. If the subdirectory does not exist, the script will create it.
3. I’ve re-introduced the memory file which i used with iPHPodder. The scripts stores the names of the downloaded files in here to prevent them from being downloaded again. So even if you throw away your downloaded files, they will not be downloaded again!
To prevent this file from growing to big, the filenames which are in this file for longer then a year will be deleted from the list.

Ok, like to know if the script runs ok or not, so please let me know by a comment or email.
