Windows Media Player supported by iPodder

Got an email today from a fellow-dutchman, Erwin Vos, who had done some hacking on my script. His script instead of updating playlists on iTunes, updates the playlists on Windows Media Player! Great job Erwin :-)
So, that takes it again one step further.

I’ve put a new version together that has both iTunes and WMP functionality. When it detects iTunes, it will update iTunes playlists, if it detects Windows Media PLayer it will update WMP’s playlists. If you have both installed, well then playlists in both applications are updated.

You can download this new iPodder for windows with Windows Media Player support here.

  1. iPodder wmp
Pieter and Erwin collaborated on an iPodder for Windows that can be used with both iTunes or Windows Media Player, which will sync up to lots of portable devices.

    Hi,
I try Ipodder for WMP, now I have this Windows Script Host error, maybe you know what the problem is?
    Script: C:\Program Files\Ipodder\j-podder.js
    Regel: 37
    Teken: 3
    Error: Toegang geweigerd
    Code: 800A0046

  4. Josh Jacob says:

I’m getting the same error message it happens for me as soon as I click “ok” on the box that comes up and says “ipodder is running” after you execute the .js file.

  5. Josh Jacob says:

actually my error message is a little different:

    Script: C:\Program Files\ipodder\i-podder.js
    Line: 191
    Char: 1
    Error: File not found
    Code: 800A0035
    Source: Microsoft JScript runtime error

  6. Andrew says:

    I commented out lines 35-45 & 166-167 & it works for iTunes.
It’s a temp fix, but it works! :)

  7. Erwin Vos says:

About the error in line 191: your memory.txt file is missing. You should at least have an empty file memory.txt

    Hi Pieter or Erwin,

Can you help me with my error?
    Script: C:\Program Files\Windows Media Player\Ipodder\j-podder.js
    Regel: 37
    Teken: 3
    Fout: Toegang geweigerd
    Code: 800A0046
    Bron: Runtime-fout Microsoft Jscript.

    Thanks,

    Another Erwin;-).

Hi ‘Another Erwin’ :) I’m currently looking into your problem. For me the major problem at the moment is that I cannot reproduce your error. However I have an idea where the trouble might be so you will hear from me soon. Probably tomorrow. A workaround might be this: You probably deleted the playlist in media player, but did not remove it from your computer as well.

For some kind of weird reason your media player refuses to create another playlist with the same name. So if you manually remove the playlist from your computer as well as in media player and then run i-podder you should succeed in downloading the items and placing them in windows media player.

the location where you can find your playlists defaults to: :\my documents\my music\my playlists

    Hope this helps for now,

    Erwin Vos

    Hi Erwin,
No it’s not working yet, I delete my playlist from my computer and in WMP, but the same error. I hope you can find out
what the problem is. Keep me informed.

    Thanks,

    Erwin

    Hi Pieter,

Could you change the script a bit so that when it’s finished running through the feeds the little message window log automatically disapears? Otherwise the script stays open and I like to have the script running at night every 3 hours through schedule management. Maybe you could output the log to a .txt file instead?

One other question, I noticed that the script returns an error if the feed doesn’t validate or returns an (temp) error. Is it possible that you create a rule that it will skip that feed and continue with the next in the feeds.txt file?

Thanks for this nice little gem and keep up the good work!

  12. Hi Pieter,

Congratulations with your good work. I have a few questions/problems. I just installed iPodder. I am using it on an XP machine with iTunes.

My first question is. How do I actually get the files into my iPod. I set up the download directory to a directory on my PCs hard drive. It copied the files here and then made playlists in iTunes, but not actually on my iPod. Of course I can drag and drop them onto my iPod without any problem, but ideally I just want to grab my iPod in the morning and find out whats on it when I sit down on the train.

Second question is for IT Conversations, iPodder doesn’t seem to retrieve any enclosures for the following RSS feed:

    http://www.itconversations.com/rss/recentWithAacEnclosures.php

Note they are all m4b AAC protected files. Does ipodder simply ignore these enclosures and only grab mp3s????

Otherwise thanks for creating a useful tool

    Regards,

    Jeremy Hartley

  14. Enhancing Now Playing with iPodder Technology
What the hell is iPodder technology you might ask? I will explain. Well, the idea is that people are publishing all kinds of audio content out there on the web. Bloggers are starting to add audio to their blog posts….
